Baja Brewing Company, Cabo San Lucas first microbrewery
Baja Brewing Company, the first craft brewery in the State of Baja California Sur, is located in Cabo San Lucas and has been crafting award-winning beers since 2007. It was founded by the father and son team of Charlie and Jordan Gardenhire from Colorado.
With the younger Gardenhire at the helm as Brewmaster, it has since grown to three locations in Cabo, and distribution throughout Mexico. OurBrewCrew.com recently had the chance to visit the Cabo Marina location. Set just outside the Puerto Paraiso Mall and steps away from the marina, the outdoor patio is the perfect spot for a relaxing lunch or dinner. Opened in 2011, the marina is the newest of their three locations.
With an extensive food menu featuring chipotle hot wings, veggie paninis, filet mignon, and many other great offerings, everyone in your group is sure to have a great experience. Their pizza is created with fresh crust made daily in-house using spent barley, yeast and beer, and was without a doubt some of the best pizza we’ve had.
With regard to the beer, it was tough to pick a favorite from their eight offerings. The Baja Blonde is a delicately
balanced brew with a mild flavor that goes down smooth and refreshing, while the Peyote Pale Ale is a beautifully bitter, hoppy masterpiece. The Baja Raspberry is a delicious and refreshing light beer perfect for a hot day in Cabo, particularly at their Cabo Villas Rooftop location. But our hands down favorite was the award-winning Peliroja Red Ale, a full-bodied ale featuring a balanced combination of malts and hops that finishes smooth yet hoppy. They also feature a full bar if you’re in the mood for something a bit stronger or a delicious homemade non-alcoholic root beer if you’ve already had enough.
If you can’t make it all the way to Cabo (although you should definitely add it to your bucket list) don’t worry. If you live in California or the southwest United States, you can still enjoy beer from the Baja Brewing Company. Their flagship brew is available in stores and bars under the name of Cabotella. It is a refreshing and unmistakably Mexican beer perfect for any occasion.
